Please refresh the page and review carefully.  Your course projects are due on Friday, 4 May 2012.  The final is on Tuesday, 8 May 2012 from 8 to 10 pm.  The exam consists of the 2 hour supervised session followed by programming to be done over the following 48 hours. In any case, both the final examination and all outstanding work for the course must be completed and turned in no later than 5 pm on Friday, 11 May 2012, to get credit for this semester.

Reminder: CSC1023 Midterm tonight

Reminder:  There will be a Skype supervised midterm from 8 to 10 pm 
tonight, Tuesday, 6 March 2012.  Try to be online on Skype by 7:55 pm.
Be sure to have a webcam and your Dowling student ID ready.  You will 
receive the URL for the midterm via Skype IM after I have checked 
student IDs.


Be very careful if you refresh your screen. Questions may not be in the
same order as they were before. Reread any answers that are carried
forward to be certain they are associated with the right questions.
 
This is an open notes, open computer exam. You may not help one another.
You may run programs to help you compute answers, but be careful not to
try to share results of your computer runs. Each of you may well be working
with different numbers. 

When you submit this exam, be sure to save a copy of the questions and
answers as a file. You then have 48 hours in which to submit an update
to your answers to any questions on which you have made substantial progress
during the exam period. If the update is an improvement, you will be
given credit for half the improvement in your score. Be sure to save your
own questions and answers. Each of you may have different numbers in your
questions from others in the class

CSC1023 Midterm Preparations

The midterm is approaching. We will have a Skype group video session on Tuesday, 28 February 2012 at 8 pm to ensure that everybody is ready to take the midterm. Please participate.

Please also catch up on the quizzes and the assignments. By now we should have set up a blog and 2 webpages (one on sites.google.com, one on arcib.dowling.edu). If you are having trouble with this, the Skype group video session is a good time to get back on track.

Correction to Assignment 2

There was a typo in Assignment 2, which allowed until 15 February for you to email me the URL of your Music Ethics essay. Therefore the emailing of the URL of the Music Ethics essay will be accepted up until 15 February 2012, and credit will be given at that time for the one question of Quiz 2 that depends on that URL. Nothing else in Assignment 2 is postponed. In particular, all the other questions on Quiz 2 are due today, 10 February, as announced, and all of Assignment 3 is due, as announced, on 17 February 2012.

Using Putty to Reach arcib.dowling.edu

If you are working from a Mac, you just need to run the Terminal application and type

ssh arcib.dowling.edu -l username

where "username" is your arcib username.

Change in the second Assignment

The second assignment has been reposted on 5 February 2012 and is due on 10 February 2012.  The details of this assignment are available at http://www.bernstein-plus-sons.com/.dowling/CSC1023S12/CSC1023_Assignments.html.  The changes are a correction to the link to the RIT lectures as well as having to submit http://www.bernstein-plus-sons.com/.dowling/CSC1023S12/CSC1023_Quiz_2.html by Friday 10 February.

CSC1023 Quiz 1

I have only received and graded 4 Quiz 1's from this class. Quiz 2 is due next Friday. Those of you who did not do Quiz 1 on time will not receive credit for it, but if you fail to do it at all, you will be incomplete for the course. It is easier to do it now than it will be to do it at the end of the semester. Please be sure to have done Quiz 1 and Quiz 2 by this coming Friday.

Those of you who did Quiz 1, but skipped some questions or got a question wrong -- same requirement -- even though you will not get more points for filling in or correcting your answers to those questions, you still have to send me the correct answers to complete the course.

I will be available for either a Skype session or for in person office hours this Monday in B205 from 12:30 to 4. I will be out of town Tuesday through Thursday, so to get on track for the work for this course, it could be a good idea to contact me no later than this Monday afternoon.
